Our Story
We are Madalena and Duarte, the heart and soul of this family-run flower farm and floral design studio in Portugal.
We founded FLO in 2021 with a small flower production and a mission to flower the world and bring nature into people’s homes. In 2022, we started our flower farm with one hectare of land, and we’ve been growing ever since.
Madalena leads the creative process and floral design, while Duarte is the family’s farmer, nurturing our flowers from seed to bloom.
Our work is guided by nature’s rhythm, creating designs that reflect each season’s beauty. We collaborate closely with our clients, growing flower varieties tailored to their unique vision.
Each arrangement is a blend of natural elegance and personal storytelling.
Our Purpose
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We practice regenerative agriculture, growing seasonal flowers with minimal irrigation and fostering biodiversity on our farm. Our floral designs use eco-friendly methods, and we compost all used blooms, ensuring each flower’s journey comes full circle. This process means that the flowers from one season's celebrations will, quite literally, help grow the next.
This mission pushed us to go further — to create a true alternative to traditional floriculture by embracing sustainable floral design. We believe in working with nature, not against it. From soil to vase, every step of our process embraces transparency, sustainability, and creativity. We collaborate with our clients, growing flower varieties tailored to their vision. Each arrangement is a blend of natural elegance and personal storytelling.

As part of our commitment to syntropic agriculture, we've planted over 500 trees of 15 different varieties on our farm. These trees not only nourish the soil but also create a thriving ecosystem, supporting the growth of our seasonal blooms and fostering biodiversity.

We started in 2021 with just 10 flower varieties. Each year, we've added new blooms and colors. By 2025, we'll be growing over 40 seasonal flower varieties, embracing diversity and creativity in every harvest.

Nearly all the flowers we use are grown on our farm, ensuring exclusivity, authenticity, and a deep connection to seasonality.

As proud members of the #nofloralfoam movement, we never use floral foam in our floral designs. Floral foam is a single-use plastic that breaks down into harmful microplastics, polluting soil and water. Instead, we embrace and create alternative sustainable mechanics, ensuring our designs are both beautiful and eco-friendly.

Every flower used in our designs is returned to the soil through composting, feeding the next season’s growth.

We work alongside universities and PhD programs to boost biodiversity on our farm. With wild bee nests, rare plant varieties, and an above-average biodiversity rate, our 1-hectare land thrives as a rich, complex ecosystem.
